If you could show the size of God’s grace, what would it look like? Would it stretch from state to state or country to country? Would every ocean combined be comparable to the size of God’s grace? Or perhaps, if you stood it up on end and let it extend into space, until it reached the moon–would that depict the correct size of God’s grace? No. Psalms 103:12 exclaims, “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us” (NIV).
As far as the east is from the west. That’s forever. The east sets out never to meet with the west, again. Take for instance, if you head east on the map, you will always go east, forever, and the same is true for west. However, if you go north, you will eventually reach the top and change directions, heading south.
Do you ever find yourself lost to the power of that realization, or forgotten altogether? That when God gave his one and only son, Jesus Christ, to be sacrificed on the cross for our sins, it was forever. Past, present, and future. Grace is power, it is a message, it is a gift to be received, it is a work, and it is an extension of who God is, only to be received through faith in Christ Jesus. God’s grace is so massively big it HAD to come through Jesus, and the only way to obtain it is freely, through him. It is undeserved and unobtainable in our own efforts.
God is so perfect that he has never once sinned, slipped up, or stumbled. In fact, he cannot sin. Phillip Holmes says,
“He is perfect in all his ways. If he were a doctor, he’d never lose a patient. If he were a lawyer, he’d never lose a case. There is no moral compass that could measure how upright and blameless he is.” (Holmes, 2015)
That is insane! Yet, despite our passion for sinfulness, God gives his gift to us anyways. Because of what was just said about God, you can know his grace is perfect, because HE is perfect. He doesn’t think like you and me. No matter what you have done, said, or thought, if you ask for forgiveness and repent, grace and forgiveness are yours. The size of grace is immeasurable, because “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” That means we are free from condemnation, free to choose rightly, and free to live in the grace of God.
Know this the size of grace, accept his free gift, and never let condemnation rule over your life. Be blessed!
